Dilla Sounds

Hip Hop

I had been wanting to do an all Dilla produced mix since I started this site, but just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. That was until I was reminded via Twitter that I need to make one. So I did.

When I first recorded it, I didn’t really have any plans to post it, I just wanted hear how I mixed it all. But after a few listens, I figured I’d share, since I enjoyed it. So I hope you like it as well. Download away.

Eighty Six

Hip Hop Instrumental

Getting back on track for mixes, I was going through some music and had an idea of making a mix of all songs at 86 BPM. So that is the direction I took, and just ran with it. There will be many different possibilities for these kind of mixes, so they should be fun to do in the future as well.

Enjoy the mix for Music Monday.

Quick Hitter

Hip Hop

I didn’t post at all this past week because I was swamped on a new project I have in the works. But I was able to sneak in a quick 30 minute mix. Nothing too crazy here, but it’s a good listen. I have ideas for new mixes, so when time permits, I’ll try to get them up here quickly.

Enjoy.

Chill Mode Mix Vol. 4

Chill Mode Hip Hop Instrumental

The fourth installment of the Chill Mode Mix series, which seems to be the ones that people like the most. It’s good background music while working. I’m thinking of doing some custom artwork for these, but not sure quite yet. I have a new project in the works, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have, but we’ll see.

I’ve also added search up in the top right. Should come in handy when I add playlists, and when this site gets more populated.

Anywho… enjoy.

Vibe With The Tribe

Hip Hop

Along with Gang Starr being in my top 5 favorite hip hop groups of all time, A Tribe Called Quest also makes that list. In fact, I leave a cd in my car with all of their albums in case I feel like listening to them, which is fairly often. I mean, who doesn’t love listening to the Tribe?

I just want to note, that I previously recorded two other Tribe mixes (obviously with different track orders and such), but they didn’t feel good enough to post. And I wanted to get it as good as I could without actually preplanning a mix. I think this one fits that bill.

I can’t imagine this being the only Tribe mix I do, because they’ve had way too many gems to cram into just an hour long mix. So there will probably be more of these, but until then…. here’s the first.

Enjoy.

House Shoes

Electronic House

Keeping with the theme of mixes from different genres, I wanted to post a house mix. Since before I started this site I had never really spun house music, but I love listening to live mixes, especially from the likes of dj’s like Mark Farina and Derrick Carter. I don’t know a ton about the individual artists that produce house music so I’m still learning more, but I do know that I love listening to it.

I had to get used to mixing it though, and at first I thought it was easier than it really was. So I had a few sessions of mixing random tracks before I recorded, just because I had to get my footing. But I think it turned out well.

So enjoy this upbeat mix for Music Monday. Hopefully it wakes you up since everyone seems to drag on Mondays.

Rainy Day Funk

Funk Soul

I had been wanting to mix it up with the genre’s of music I mix and add to this site, so I figured today, given the crappy weather, put me in the mood to do just that. This mix is much different than the other mixes I’ve put up here. Much more of a funky, old school, disco vibe going on. I hope to make many more of these.

I’ve also added a couple things to the site, including a way to share these on Twitter, Facebook, and via email. I’ve also added, in the top right, some icons linked to the iTunes podcast, and the RSS feed, in case people didn’t know they were available.

Enjoy…. and share it if you like it.

Gang Starr’s Finest

Hip Hop

Gang Starr is easily one of my top 5 hip hop groups of all time. I never get sick of listening to Guru over Premier’s production. Their tracks are very fun to mix, so I compiled this hour long mix of, what I think, are some of their best tracks. I think this is probably the best mix I’ve made since launching this site.

There were only a couple song transitions that could have been a tad smoother, but overall, I think it turned out very well. I’ve listened to it at least 5 times since making it.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

Midnight Oil

Hip Hop

It was late, and I had just come off a good 6-hour session of playing Modern Warfare 2. My brain was spent. But I wanted to listen to a little music before cashing in for the night. So I recorded this hour and a half mix. While mixing this, I had a few ideas of other themes I wanted to do for mixes, so hopefully I’ll get to those in the near future. But until then…enjoy.

Sunday Hustle

Hip Hop

This is a little upbeat mix that I put together this Sunday evening. I started listening to this Slum Village song, named Hustle, which is the first track of this mix. Before I knew it, I was bouncing around like I was actually entertaining a crowd or something. So I pressed record.

I think I’m going to keep my mixes under 90 minutes. While it was fun recording a 2 hour mix, it’s hard for listeners (including myself) to sit all the way through a 2 hour mix. So I’m going to keep them a little shorter. This one is just under an hour. Enjoy.
