Chill Mode Mix: Necro Edition

Chill Mode Instrumental

I know we’re hot off the heals of a Chill Mode Mix already, but I feel this needs to be posted. I’ve listened to it a bunch over the past few days, and no longer want to keep it to myself.

So, one of the ideas I had for this CMM series was producer editions. In other words, having the whole mix of all tracks from one producer. In this case, it’s Necro. His lyrics can be a lot to stomach. He invented death-rap, if that says anything. But if you’re like me, you listen to Necro because he’s an amazing producer. One of my favorites in fact. So you should definitely give this if you value great production. It’s all instrumentals (only one song with lyrics), and fits the CMM series well.

I will soon be having a weekly live broadcast where I mix some tunes, and possibly record to post here. I’ve been playing around with it the last few days, and have gotten a good response. So I will announce what day of the week that is going to be shortly, but feel free to tell me what days work for you.

Enjoy. No tracklisting for this one.

Chill Mode Mix Vol. 5

Chill Mode Hip Hop Instrumental

This is the latest installment of the Chill Mode Mix series, which, from most of the comments I’ve heard about this site, seems to be the favorite. I have to say, that it’s fun making them too, and upon listening to this one more, I got a few ideas for how to mix up the series.

There are a couple not-so-smooth transitions. I really need to be more patient with some of these mixes, but sometimes I just get a little too pumped to bring in the next track. Anyways, here’s the tracklisting…

  1. Madlib – Episode XI
  2. K-DEF – Hey Funkbox
  3. Atmosphere – Apple (Instrumental)
  4. Mobb Deep – G.O.D. Pt. 3 (Instrumental)
  5. Necro Ft. Ill Bill – Our Life (Instrumental)
  6. J-Zone – Kizzy’s Revenge (Instrumental)
  7. Quasimoto – Low Class Conspiracy (Instrumental)
  8. Asheru & Blue Black – Smiley (Instrumental)
  9. Group Home – Up Against Tha Wall (Instrumental)
  10. A Tribe Called Quest – God Lives Through
  11. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien – Phony Phranchise (Domino Remix Instrumental)
  12. Hieroglyphics – The Who (Del Mix Instrumental)
  13. Kardinal Offishall – Ol’ Time Kilin (Instrumental)
  14. Method Man & Redman – Let’s Do It (Instrumental)
  15. Mos Def – Body Rock (Instrumental)
  16. Nas – One Love (Instrumental)
  17. Pep Love – The Grind (Instrumental)

Beats by Madlib

Hip Hop

To say that I listen to Madlib (and Madlib produced tracks) would be a huge understatement. He’s yet another producer in my top 5, if not top 3. I try to get everything that he has his hands in, which is a pretty big list. I thought it would be a good idea to make an all Madlib-produced mix. By no means is this a “Best of” type of mix. It’s just random tracks produced by him, both old and new.

I think my favorite part of this mix is about 11:20 in (Blunt Break). I think that interlude is just amazing. Here’s the tracklisting…

  1. Madlib – Real Days
  2. Lootpack – Hityawitdat
  3. Madvillain – 3.214
  4. Diverse – Ain’t Right
  5. Madlib – Blunt Break
  6. Madlib – Distant Land
  7. Madlib Ft. Frezna- Yo Yo Affair Pt. 1 & 2
  8. Madlib – Track 17
  9. Lootpack – On Point
  10. Quasimoto & Declaime – Don’t Trip
  11. Lootpack – On Point
  12. Guilty Simpson & Madlib – Hood Sentence
  13. Madlib – Mind Touch
  14. Madlib – Collie and Beer
  15. Madlib – Pikes Strike
  16. Madlib – Chops and Thangs
  17. Madlib – Lost Lust
  18. Strong Arm Steady ft. Planet Asia – Chittlins & Pepsi
  19. Quasimoto – Microphone Mathematics
  20. Lootpack ft. God’s Gift – Antidote To Da Antidope
  21. Madlib – Rapper X Radio
  22. Madlib – Episode XI
  23. Lootpack – Miss Deja Vu
  24. Madlib – Montara

Down Time and Favorites

info

It’s been quiet around these parts, but with good reason. Aside from being swamped at the day job and working on getting another personal project out the door, things have been extremely busy. On top of that, my wife and I will be moving into a house very soon, so everything is pretty much boxed up. So it might be another week or so before I’m back up and running and able to to provide another mix.

So far, I’m liking how this site is going. I’ve gotten some humbling comments about my mixes. While I know they aren’t perfect, it makes me feel pretty good when others mention they enjoy the mixes I’m putting together. That’s all I could ask for with a project like this.

I actually listen to my mixes quite a bit after posting them here, so since I don’t have any new mixes, here are a few of my favorites that I would highly recommend listening to:

I still have many ideas for more mixes, so we’ll be back at it in no time. Thanks for waiting it out with me, and being a listener. Also, if you have any ideas on types of mixes you’d like to hear let me know, and if I have it I’ll try to fill the request.
