Hump Day Bumps Show Hiatus

info

Hey Folks, thought I’d finally get around to giving a few updates on the happenings around the site and such. While I’ve gone back and forth on this for a while, I’ve decided that the Hump Day Bumps Show is going on a temporary hiatus. I’ve had to take down the studio because my family is in the process of upgrading our housing situation. We’re currently stationed in a temporary house (read: in-laws), and we won’t be moving into our new house until October/November.

While I won’t have have my full audio setup, I will try to get something setup to be able to contribute to the podcast a bit more. I’m also trying to get OneDeep to start his own live show, so we’ll see if that works out. I’ll definitely announce it if it goes through though.

In the meantime, just keep a lookout for the podcast. I have a new Chill Mode Mix in the works!

No Show This Week

info

What’s happening listeners. Unfortunately we have to cancel this weeks show. But we will definitely be back next week with fresh tunes for a long overdue hip hop show.

So tune back in next week!

I’ve thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to bite the bullet on creating a Facebook page for this site. But with the radio show happening weekly now, and possibly needing to change times/days and having guests, it makes sense to have a place to be able to post these updates.

So head on over to Facebook and join the page to keep up to date with anything site related.

Introducing Press Record Radio

info

For at least the past year, I’ve been wanting to do a live weekly show. It was a direction that I’ve wanted to go since I started this site. At random times I’d do live broadcasts, but it wasn’t regularly. I want to change that now. Earlier this week I test drove a video format (skip to 4:00 for sound), and decided it was time to get this going.

I’m introducing Press Record Radio. It’s going to be a weekly show on Wednesday nights, starting roughly at 8 p.m. EST. My plan right now is to have two different shows: The Hump Day Bumps Show for house music, and a hip hop show that I’ve yet to name. I plan on doing the hip hop show every third show, roughly. I’m still working out the details on that one.

Starting off, the show will be about 2 hours of music, and it will be a live video stream powered by Ustream (until I find a better service). I will also have a chatroom on the page so that people can chat and interact with me, and I plan on being active in the room while the show is going on.

So where do you go for this show? Right here to start off. The stream and chatroom are already there, so you just have to hit that page on Wednesday night. I might even make that page the homepage of this site, to make it even easier. I’ve also setup a landing page for the Press Record Radio where I’ll add the new show when it’s ready.

I’m in discussions with a few different DJ’s to have them on as guests, because it’s something that I’d like to do, especially come October when my wife and I have our first kid. I really wish I had started this earlier than 3 months before my schedule will forever change. But I’m going to make it work!

I’m beyond excited to do this, so I hope it’s fun for all, and I hope people interact and enjoy the show. Of course I’m always open for ideas and suggestions. So tune in Wednesday, July 18th July 25th at 8 p.m. EST for the first show. Hope to see you there!

Press Record: Behind the Scenes [Video]

info Video

I’ve been playing around with the iPhone 4 camera a bunch, mainly with recording a couple minutes of a mixing. So I thought I’d post one here, which is a couple minutes of the Down Time mix I did, at about 11 and a half minutes in. This is the setup in action. You may need to up the volume, because the recording volume was lower than I thought.

There is also this other one, which is a video of me mixing some Slum Village tracks:

Down Time and Favorites

info

It’s been quiet around these parts, but with good reason. Aside from being swamped at the day job and working on getting another personal project out the door, things have been extremely busy. On top of that, my wife and I will be moving into a house very soon, so everything is pretty much boxed up. So it might be another week or so before I’m back up and running and able to to provide another mix.

So far, I’m liking how this site is going. I’ve gotten some humbling comments about my mixes. While I know they aren’t perfect, it makes me feel pretty good when others mention they enjoy the mixes I’m putting together. That’s all I could ask for with a project like this.

I actually listen to my mixes quite a bit after posting them here, so since I don’t have any new mixes, here are a few of my favorites that I would highly recommend listening to:

I still have many ideas for more mixes, so we’ll be back at it in no time. Thanks for waiting it out with me, and being a listener. Also, if you have any ideas on types of mixes you’d like to hear let me know, and if I have it I’ll try to fill the request.

Press Record Podcast Available in iTunes

info

Apple finally gave the green light for approval of the Press Record podcast. So if you’re an iTunes user and want these mixes through that channel, feel free to subscribe. The first two mixes aren’t there yet because they’re still on SoundCloud, so I will work on getting those over to iTunes shortly. But from here on out, you can get them in iTunes, or just download them on your own.

Let me know if you have any issues with the podcast.

New Mix And Testing iTunes Podcasts

Hip Hop info Instrumental

I’ve decided that I’m moving off of SoundCloud. While I really love the service, the current plan that I’m on only allows for 12 hours of music, and I don’t really want to pay for the next plan up. I think I’ll go through 12 hours pretty quickly (or even 36 hours, the next plan up), especially if I bring in another dj. And I’d rather not limit the time frame per mix. Sometimes you’re just feeling the music and don’t want to stop mixing, and I want to be able to share that. So I’m switching to Rackspace Cloud Files, which is much more cost effective. So the audio player will also change.

I’m also trying out having these mixes available through iTunes as a podcast. I figure there are tons of people who already use iTunes, so I’m trying to make it easier to distribute these mixes to interested people. So I will link up the podcast once it’s live and working.

Anywho, this mix is the same format as the other Chill Mode mixes….. this is actually the first one I did, that I originally said that I wasn’t going to link up. But the more I listen to it, the more I figure it’s not that bad.

Welcome to Press Record

info

When I was in college, djing was one of my favorite hobbies. I spent a whole lot of money on either vinyl, or mixtapes to listen to from my favorite dj’s. After I graduated, I sold my equipment and started to put more focus on freelance design work and my career. But I’ve missed it ever since I stopped.

With things much more settled these days, I now want to get back into djing. I’m not really interested in doing gigs, but rather more of the bedroom dj role. So, when I was in college I often just recorded my practice sessions, without having any set playlist. I just played what I felt like hearing at the time.

That brings me to the theme of this site. Just pressing record, and start mixing. All of the mixes here will be just that. My goal, eventually, will be to have other dj’s join in and possibly expand the genres/tastes of music here. So if you would be interested, shoot me an email.

I plan on adding more features in the near future for easier sharing, searching, playlists, etc., but for now, I just want to keep it very simple. I’m starting off using SoundCloud for hosting the [downloadable] mixes, but I might end up switching to something more cost effective. For software and recording I’ll be using djay. As much as it would be nice to have the old hardware setup I had in college, it’s just a bit too expensive, so for hardware, I’ll be using the Vestax Spin.

So there you have it, and this is the new site. So I hope you enjoy the music and come back.
