Beats by Madlib May 12

To say that I listen to Madlib (and Madlib produced tracks) would be a huge understatement. He’s yet another producer in my top 5, if not top 3. I try to get everything that he has his hands in, which is a pretty big list. I thought it would be a good idea to make an all Madlib-produced mix. By no means is this a “Best of” type of mix. It’s just random tracks produced by him, both old and new.

I think my favorite part of this mix is about 11:20 in (Blunt Break). I think that interlude is just amazing. Here’s the tracklisting…

Down Time and Favorites May 1

It’s been quiet around these parts, but with good reason. Aside from being swamped at the day job and working on getting another personal project out the door, things have been extremely busy. On top of that, my wife and I will be moving into a house very soon, so everything is pretty much boxed up. So it might be another week or so before I’m back up and running and able to to provide another mix.

So far, I’m liking how this site is going. I’ve gotten some humbling comments about my mixes. While I know they aren’t perfect, it makes me feel pretty good when others mention they enjoy the mixes I’m putting together. That’s all I could ask for with a project like this.

I actually listen to my mixes quite a bit after posting them here, so since I don’t have any new mixes, here are a few of my favorites that I would highly recommend listening to:

Aftershave Apr 5

I was fresh off of recording a mix, which I’ll post later this week, and I had iTunes on random. The track Funky 4 U from Deadbeats (the first track of this mix) comes on, and I immediately thought that I’d like to make a real smooth mix, hence the title. Just simple mixing in and out of [mostly] instrumentals. So that’s what I did.

I think only a couple of songs have words to them, so it’s mostly an instrumental mix….. along the lines of the Chill Mode series. I was also going to introduce track lists, but I accidentally closed out djay before grabbing the track names, so I said screw it. But look for those soon.

Dilla Sounds Mar 31

I had been wanting to do an all Dilla produced mix since I started this site, but just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. That was until I was reminded via Twitter that I need to make one. So I did.

When I first recorded it, I didn’t really have any plans to post it, I just wanted hear how I mixed it all. But after a few listens, I figured I’d share, since I enjoyed it. So I hope you like it as well. Download away.

Eighty Six Mar 29

Getting back on track for mixes, I was going through some music and had an idea of making a mix of all songs at 86 BPM. So that is the direction I took, and just ran with it. There will be many different possibilities for these kind of mixes, so they should be fun to do in the future as well.

I didn’t post at all this past week because I was swamped on a new project I have in the works. But I was able to sneak in a quick 30 minute mix. Nothing too crazy here, but it’s a good listen. I have ideas for new mixes, so when time permits, I’ll try to get them up here quickly.

Chill Mode Mix Vol. 4 Mar 19

The fourth installment of the Chill Mode Mix series, which seems to be the ones that people like the most. It’s good background music while working. I’m thinking of doing some custom artwork for these, but not sure quite yet. I have a new project in the works, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have, but we’ll see.

I’ve also added search up in the top right. Should come in handy when I add playlists, and when this site gets more populated.
